Education

To help with the Bluebonnet’s desire to grow the Homebrewing hobby and Homebrew Competitions, the Bluebonnet supports creating more quality judges. One way we can help grow our judging pool is by supporting classes to teach Beer Styles and prepare students to take the BJCP Judging Exam. With that goal, we have two policies:

  1. The Bluebonnet Brew-Off will offer a grant of $500 to a person or group that teaches a BJCP Beer Styles and Judging Exam Preparation class.
    • Prior authorization is required from the Bluebonnet Brew-Off Board of Directors.
    • If there are multiple instructors, the $500 is shared appropriately.
    • A BJCP Judging Exam must be given at the conclusion of the course.
  2. For the students of a BJCP Beer Styles and Judging Exam (tasting exam) Preparation class, The Bluebonnet Brew-Off will reimburse the students of the class $100 towards the tuition for the class.
    • The student must take the BJCP Judging Exam and receive a score of 60 points or better on the exam.
    • The student must assist in the judging of three (3) medal categories during or after the conclusion of the class.
